Road Trip day 2 Happy Easter!

Day 2 consisted of a lot of driving. We only had 1 destination planned and the rest was driving!

We woke up to find that the Easter Bunny had found us at our horrible hotel and left the girls a little basket and some candy filled eggs. The kids were so excited! Cassidy was worried that he wouldn't find us.

Once we left the hotel we brought the girls over to Bedrock City (yes the Flintstones) they wanted their picture taken on the log car. They love the Flintstones movie so this was awesome for them to see.

We filled the truck up and got breaksfast and headed back to the Grand Canyon National Park to drive along the East Rim to head to the Four Corners Monument.

Driving through Arizona was long and boring but that was to be expected.

After about 4 hours of driving we arrived at the Four Corners Monument and explained to the girls what it was. They loved the fact that they could run around in a circle and be in 4 different states while doing it. We were able to stand in the middle of the monument and be in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah at one time!

The rest of the day we spent driving and ended our day in Tucumcari, New Mexico. We got a much nicer hotel!!

Road Trip Day 1

Our Journey started at 530am when our alarms went off and it was time to wake the kids up! We packed the car the day before so our morning would go smoothly. The girls jumped right up out of bed and got ready! (you can say they were excited)  We left the house at 630 and headed to the Hoover Dam the first destination of our trip.

Once we arrived to the Hoover Dam we first drove over the Dam then parked and walked over the Dam and visited the Hoover Dam gift shop and the visitor center. Also while at the Hoover Dam we crossed our first time zone!! The girls were not the most excited about visiting the Hoover Dam but then once they seen fish in Lake Mead they were all about it!

FUN FACT:While visiting we learned that the Hoover Dam helps supply electricity to most of the West Coast!

After about an hour at the Dam we went back to the car and headed for our next destination The Grand Canyon National Park. The drive to the Grand Canyon was long and miles upon miles of open fields, canyons and mountains. Once we arrived to the Grand Canyon we got our Annual Military National Park Pass and entered the park. We parked and walked to the Mather Point Overlook. All I can say is that pictures DO NOT do the Grand Canyon justice. The girls loved climbing on the rocks and steps of the ampitheater and walking along the trails. After about an hour or so we headed back to the car to head to our hotel for the night.

Our hotel.. omg where to begin. We didn't want to stay near the Grand Canyon because we cannot justify paying over $130 a night for a few hours of sleep so we went to the town of Williams and stayed at the Grand Canyon Inn. Let me just say you get what you pay for. We have stayed in bad hotels before but this one was by far the worst. All 4 walls were brick and there were no windows except a little one in the bathroom and there was only 1 bed we thought was a king size but nope once we got in the room it was a full size.. We would have asked for another room but they were all booked a lot of other people had the same idea as we did I mean 20 miles away and only $50 we thought it was a good deal but it ended up being a night of no sleep for me, a little sleep for Max and a good night of sleep for the girls.

Over all our first day was good about 11-12 hours of driving and knocked 2 things off our bucket list!!

2 Days

The days are getting shorter for our journey to begin. 2 days till we begin our road trip 25 states in 30 days. What were we thinking. This is the first long road trip with the girls. They are super excited while I am super stressed already thinking that I am forgetting something! Our journey will begin here in San Diego and take us to so many locations and places that Max and I can cross off our bucket list. Highlights of our journey will be visiting Max's best friend Joe who we have not seen since 2007 then we will head to see my best friend Kerry!! Yes I know I just seen Kerry in September but that was way too long ago! Finally we will be going to NY for a week to visit with family that we have not seen since 2011. I look forward to seeing so many people but am already feeling like we are being pulled here and there by everyone wanting to see us. I plan on posting updates at each of our locations so I hope that you can enjoy part of our trip with us!!! Wish us luck!!
